Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell. I thought this would be the easiest review to write. I also have been sitting starring at my screen for the last 30 minutes so that isn’t totally true. Reason being there isn’t much to say beyond how wonderful of a book it is. Rainbow is able to take books, turn the characters into someone you feel a deep connection to. In Eleanor & Park the characters go through normal teenager things, and some hard things that some children go through.  One of these being going through first love and first heartbreak. I was about the same age as Eleanor and Park when I fell for my boyfriend so reading her book was nice and nostalgic. She is able to bring back all the memories of those first kisses, and slowly getting to know each other. She also makes Eleanor relatable for girls. I know what it is like to be the girl who gets made fun of in Gym Class. I know how it feels to be left out. This book gets a 10/10 from me. As I said she makes the characters and story relatable. It is a coming of age novel for Park. He slowly is finding himself throughout the story. He gets crushed by his first love leaving him. We all died a little when it took her a long time before sending him one post card with 3 words on it. I am curious to see what my book club thinks those 3 words are. Though I assume it is “I love you.” This is short, but as I said. It is a good book. Worth a read.

  1. I read this book without even realizing I was reading it. I was just absorbing the story. I found myself smiling to myself all the time and at the end I was so emotionally invested in Eleanor and Park’s relationship that I cried when they were apart. Rainbow Rowell is an amazing writer, and you are right he makes it so that you have a deep connection with his characters. I really want to believe that Eleanor said “I love you.” This was a great book review! I agree that this books is a 10/10

  2. I read this in like week 1 or 2 and I STILL am pining for information about the characters. What happened next in their lives? How does Eleanor survive her entire life upheaval yet again?
    I cried like a baby through the last 50 or so pages. I really like how you said that you didn’t feel like you were reading a book, you were just in their lives.
    Do you feel like there is a book lull after this one? Like the next one couldn’t be this good?

    1. Yes there was most definitely a lull. I think I put off reading for a few weeks the first time I read this just because I knew it would be hard to match up. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. It is a good read and hard to say goodbye to as well.

  3. I can’t tell you how excited I am to read this book! It’s next on my list for our book club, I think. I’ve already checked it out, but am trying to finish up a couple of others prior to cracking it open.
